SAN JUAN DE VALDEZ, San Jose, Tarlac---The possible hosting of Tarlac province of the 2010 Palarong Pambansa got a major boost from Secretary Jesli Lapus of the Department of Education (DepEd) when he announced that he will help in Tarlac’s bid to host the biggest sports spectacle in the country next year.
“It just so happens that I am the chairman of the screening committee for the Palarong Pambansa,” he said during his speech at the opening ceremonies of the annual Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) meet.
Lapus, before his appointment as secretary of the DepEd, was a congressman of Tarlac’s third district.
“With this kind of sports facilities, I am sure that Tarlac has the inside tract this early,” Lapus said.
The Palarong Pambansa will be hosted by Tacloban City in Leyte this coming May.
According to Tarlac Governor Victor Yap, the CLRAA meet is a testing ground for Tarlac on its “Palaro” bid next year
“This will be a test for all Tarlaqueños. The success of this CLRAA will be one of the barometers in our bid for the Palarong Pambansa next year,” the governor noted.
Lapus pointed-out, however, that for Tarlac to successfully get the hosting of next year’s Palarong Pambansa, major problems should be addressed first.
“The traffic situation must be addressed and a larger parking space is needed,” he said.
Lapus added that as a Tarlaqueño himself, he will be very proud if Tarlac will be triumphant in its bid for next year’s Palarong Pambansa.
“Of course I will be very proud if we could host the Palaro in 2010,” he said.
Tarlac’s hosting of the CLRAA meet is the first time in 20 years.---PIO Media Affairs
